MOGADISHU – Two journalists working for TTN Somali TV in Mogadishu were arrested by Somali government security forces in the Hodan district without being informed of the reasons for their detention.
The journalists have been identified as:
* Ali Mohamed Ahmed
* Faisal Farooq Ahmed
According to reports, the two journalists were forcibly removed from a Bajaj motorcycle (tuk-tuk) by security personnel on the morning of Thursday, May 21, 2026. They were detained for several hours before later being released.
SRS Response.
SRS strongly condemns the arrests, describing them as a clear violation of press freedom and an attack on the vital work journalists carry out in informing the public.
“Journalists are not individuals who can be arbitrarily arrested and later released without explanation. Such unlawful detentions and continued harassment reflect the ongoing pressure and censorship being imposed on independent media,” said the SRS spokesperson.
