MOGADISHU — The Somali Police Force has detained journalist Abdukadir Abukar Ali, known as Diirshe, who works for Somali Stream Media.
Authorities stated that the arrest was executed in compliance with a court order against him.
Safe Reporters of Somalia (SRS) has expressed deep concern over Ali’s arrest, calling for his immediate and unconditional release while urging respect for press freedom.
“The media is a vital pillar of democracy, good governance, and citizens’ right to access information. Therefore, it is essential that journalists be allowed to carry out their professional duties without interference,” emphasized Hanad Ali Guled, spokesperson for SRS.
SRS further urges all government institutions to respect press freedom and uphold the fundamental rights guaranteed by the country’s Constitution.
