MOGADISHU – SRS strongly condemns the arbitrary detention of journalists Shukri Abdi, Jacfar Mohamed, Abdullahi Sidow, and Nor Hassan of Shabelle and Kalsan TV, along with Rowdo Hassan of Goobjoog Media. The five journalists were reportedly arrested while covering forced evictions in Mogadishu.
The detention of these media professionals represents a serious violation of press freedom and the public’s fundamental right to access information.
Such actions undermine transparency and hinder the media’s essential role in reporting on matters of public interest.
SRS calls on the Federal Government of Somalia to uphold its constitutional and international obligations to protect freedom of expression and ensure media independence.
“The arbitrary arrest of journalists for carrying out their professional duties is unacceptable. We call for their immediate release, an end to intimidation against the media, and full respect for the rule of law and the protection of journalists,” SRS state
