MOGADISHU — Safe Reporters of Somalia (SRS) strongly condemns the disruption of operations at Risaala Media headquarters in Mogadishu on Tuesday, after an armed officer reportedly blocked staff from entering or leaving the premises.
According to a statement published on Risaala’s official website, the incident occurred at the outlet’s headquarters in the Hamarjajab district, where a soldier affiliated with the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) prevented employees from accessing the building, effectively halting all media activities.
Risaala said the blockade severely affected its ability to deliver news and information services to the public.
SRS denounces this act of intimidation and calls on the relevant authorities to immediately lift all restrictions imposed on the media outlet, ensure the safety of journalists and staff, and uphold constitutional guarantees of press freedom.
SRS warns that such incidents reflect an alarming pattern of attempts to silence independent media, undermining the public’s right to access information and weakening democratic accountability in Somalia.
