Safe Reporters of Somalia (SRS) has released a new report detailing incidents of violence against journalists across the country over the past three months.
According to SRS data, 34 journalists, including two women, experienced various forms of violence during this period. Despite these alarming figures, only two journalists—one in Benadir and another in Somaliland—were brought before the courts.
On the occasion of November 2, the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, SRS calls on authorities at all levels to take urgent and concrete measures to protect media professionals and uphold press freedom.
We urge stakeholders, civil society, and the public to join us in advocating for a safe and secure environment for journalists in Somalia.
