MOGADISHU, Somalia Safe Reporters of Somalia expresses deep concern over the brief detention of journalist Abdihafid Nor, who works with Somali Cable Television, was arrested by Somali police at Aden Adde International Airport on Saturday.
Mr. Abdihafid was reportedly traveling with a group of journalists bound for Waajid  District in the Bakool Region when he was detained for several hours before being released.
Safe Reporters of Somalia strongly condemns this unjustified action against a member of the press. Such incidents reflect a disturbing pattern of intimidation targeting journalists and represent a serious threat to media freedom and freedom of expression in Somalia.
We call on the Somali authorities to immediately cease all forms of harassment and arbitrary detention of journalists and to uphold their constitutional and international obligations to safeguard press freedom. The government bears a special responsibility to ensure that journalists can carry out their professional duties freely, safely, and without fear of reprisal.
