Amina Ibrahim Arrested in Baidoa: Press Freedom Must Be Protected – SRS

BAYDHABO – Safe Reporters of Somalia (SRS) strongly condemns the unlawful arrest, intimidation, and threats against journalist Amina Ibrahim Abdirahman, Deputy Director of Arlaadi Media, in Baidoa.

SRS confirms that Ms. Amina Ibrahim was illegally detained for more than one hour by security agencies at Shaati-Gaduud Airport, where she was subjected to extensive interrogations unrelated to her professional duties.

“The security agencies in Baidoa have no mandate to intimidate or threaten journalists. Full responsibility for any harm that may befall Amina Ibrahim rests with the Baidoa administration and its security forces,” said SRS Spokesperson Hanad Ali Guled.

Although she was later released, Ms. Amina remains in Baidoa on bail without any formal charges filed against her. This situation constitutes a clear violation of citizens’ rights and press freedom in the Southwest region.

SRS calls on the relevant authorities to respect media freedom and uphold the constitutional rights of journalists to work without fear, harassment, or intimidation.
