Who We Are
Safe Reporters of Somalia (SRS) is a non-profit, independent initiative dedicated to protecting and empowering journalists working in Somalia’s high-risk, conflict-affected environment. In a country where truth-telling is often met with intimidation, harassment, or violence, SRS acts as a shield for journalists, ensuring their safety, amplifying their voices, and defending their right to report freely.
We believe that a free, safe, and independent press is the cornerstone of transparency, accountability, and democratic governance. Without journalists, the truth is silenced. Without safety, stories remain untold.
Our Vision
A Somalia where every journalist can work freely, safely, and independently, contributing to a society built on truth, accountability, and informed public discourse.
Our Mission
To protect, support, and empower journalists in Somalia through safety training, emergency assistance, advocacy, and capacity-building programmes. We ensure they can report with integrity and without fear, while promoting press freedom and ethical journalism.
Our Approach
- People-Centered: We prioritize the safety and well-being of every journalist, tailoring our support to their specific needs.
- Collaborative: We work in close partnership with local media houses, civil society organizations, and international partners to build a united front for press freedom.
- Action-Oriented: We move beyond rhetoric to provide direct, practical assistance that saves lives and protects vital stories.
- Sustainable: We invest in long-term solutions, such as training and policy advocacy, to create a safer environment for future generations of journalists.
